At the backbone of all communities are their people. When the people of a community see a consistent issue, often they must band together and strategize solutions. This could mean demonstrations and protests, community discussions, advocacy, or even events and services. As collective groups, they do not serve the mandates of an organization, business, or government, but rather a message to those institutions on what they feel is important. Grassroots movements and groups provide a voice for neighbourhoods that amplifies their priorities.
In Durham Region, the homeless and homeless serving community is supported by some of the most incredible people and grassroots initiatives in the world. These groups represent individuals who perform their work merely for the reason that they want their community to improve, and they do not want people to suffer. These movements represent the overwhelming strength and resilience of the people of Durham Region.
